It is not salacious or gossipy, most definitely not braggy or boastful. Some have asked me if In Pieces is a “star book,” and I would say no. She could have kept this all to herself we certainly never would have known. It took her seven years to write it and a lifetime to live and process it. Sally Field…My first introduction being either Steel Magnolias or Forrest Gump? I had heard of Gidget, the happy-go-lucky, girl-next-door, cute, charming, all smiles. I thought I “knew” Sally Field from her movies, but it turns out she has a far-reaching, honest story to tell, and I took my time with it- some parts difficult, but all of it memorable. I have recommended the book to many different people for different reasons, and gave it 5*'s (something I don't do often). It was very profound and I have respect for her candor and tenacity. I had a model that was molested by her stepfather and she thought she was ugly in spite of her success. The best answer I can give is that she is honest and feels sincere. Each case is personal, as are the experiences in the person's journey to heal. Your accomplishments, the praise and adulation mean very little when you don't believe you areworthy of it. When anyone goes through the kind of childhood abuse/neglect Field tactfully confesses it sets up a myriad of feelings, of self-doubt, being self-critical, low self-esteem.
